Iran Protests Erupt Over US Peace Deal Talks

Dozens of protesters gathered outside a foreign ministry office in Mashhad, Iran on Saturday. They chanted slogans against Abbas Araghchi, Iran's top diplomat.

The protest followed a televised interview where Araghchi discussed signing a peace deal with the US. Araghchi also said Iran was the winner of the war with the US.

That statement appeared to fuel anger at home. Protests also happened in Tehran against Araghchi and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

President Trump said the peace deal would be signed Sunday. But an Iranian foreign ministry official said no Sunday signing was planned. The official said a deal could be finished in the coming days.

Klear Note Iran and the US have had tense relations for decades. Peace deal talks are rare and controversial in Iran.
