Iran Says Oman Deal Won't Reopen Strait of Hormuz
Iran said Saturday a deal with Oman was close. But the deal alone would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Oman said talks were continuing in a positive atmosphere. Oman also condemned attacks on ships in the strait.
Iran had listed demands for reopening the waterway. A top Iranian security official said it would stay closed.
This would last until the United States met Iran's conditions. Iran's Revolutionary Guard said the same thing.
The Guard said the Oman talks did not matter. Only US acceptance of Iran's terms would reopen the strait.
The United Arab Emirates said Iran hit another of its ships. This happened amid high tensions between the US and Iran. The strait's closure has raised global energy prices.
