Israel Drops Case Over Gaza Aid Worker Death
Israel decided not to pursue criminal charges over a Gaza strike. The strike killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom in 2024.
Six other World Central Kitchen workers also died in the strike. The Israeli military also decided not to open a criminal investigation.
The military had already admitted mistakes in identifying the convoy. It said decision-making errors led to the strike.
Australia's foreign minister Penny Wong said Australia is "outraged" by the decision. She said Israel failed to give the accountability expected.
Wong noted the decision came on World Humanitarian Day. She called the timing "especially insulting." Wong will summon the Israeli ambassador to discuss the decision.
Greens leader Larissa Waters said strong words are not enough. Waters said sending the ambassador home should be considered. She also said Australia should sanction Israel.
