Israel Says It Captured Hamas Security Chief in Gaza Raid
Israel said its forces captured Mu'in al-Arabid during a raid in Gaza. He was identified as Hamas's security chief.
Israeli sources called him head of Hamas's General Security Apparatus. A Palestinian source called him Gaza City's internal-security chief.
Hamas said Israel sent secret agents into Gaza City. Reports say Israeli special forces led the raid.
Israel-backed Palestinian militiamen reportedly also took part. The raid was discovered.
This led to a firefight. Israeli ground and air strikes then helped the force escape.
Defense Minister Israel Katz said airstrikes covered the withdrawal. Palestinian officials said the operation killed four people.
But the BBC reported three deaths during the raid. Israel has not given details about the Palestinian militiamen's role.
