Israel Strikes Beirut for First Time Since Ceasefire
Israel struck the Haret Hreik area of Beirut. This was the first Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital since a ceasefire began on April 17.
The strike targeted Malek Ballout. He leads the Radwan Force which is Hezbollah's top fighting unit.
Israel had not hit Beirut since April 8. Both sides had already broken the ceasefire before this strike.
The strike came despite a request from President Trump to halt strikes on Beirut. Hezbollah has also kept attacking Israel since April 17.
Those attacks included drones and rockets aimed at Israeli soldiers and northern communities. Israeli forces have also kept hitting targets in southern Lebanon. Lebanon was preparing for a third round of peace talks in Washington the following week.
Klear Note — A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah began April 17. Both sides have broken it with continued attacks. Hezbollah is a militant group based in Lebanon.
