Israel Strikes Lebanon on Eid Holiday

Israel hit the coastal city of Tyre in Lebanon on Thursday. The strikes caused a large fireball.

This happened as Muslims celebrated Eid al-Adha. Before the strikes Israel declared parts of southern Lebanon a combat zone.

Israel also told Lebanese residents to leave about 17% of Lebanon's land. This was the first such warning since a ceasefire on April 17.

Israeli strikes also hit Beirut and other parts of southern Lebanon. Israel declared all areas south of the Zahrani River as combat zones.

That river is about 40km from the border. Prime Minister Netanyahu said the military was going beyond a set boundary.

He said ground operations in Lebanon were getting deeper. Lebanon's health ministry said at least 31 people were killed on Tuesday alone.

At least 40 others were wounded that day. The total death toll since the war began on March 2 has reached 3,269.
