Israeli Soldier Kills Baby in West Bank
An Israeli soldier shot and killed a 7-month-old baby in the West Bank. The baby was in a car with family members in Hebron.
The Israeli military said the soldier fired because troops saw the car moving toward them. But the baby's grandmother was in the car and disputed that account.
She said the military's version of events was wrong. Palestinian officials confirmed the infant was killed in the shooting.
The baby's parents were also hurt in the shooting. The mother was seriously injured with shrapnel near her heart.
The Israeli military launched a formal investigation into the incident. It said those hurt were uninvolved civilians.
Klear Note — The West Bank is a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel. Tensions between Israeli forces and Palestinians there lead to frequent incidents.
