Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon killed at least 11 people, including children, the Lebanese health ministry said. The attacks occurred two months into a truce with Hezbollah and were the deadliest since the truce began in June.

The strikes hit homes in Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani. Seven people, including three children, were killed in Ansar, and four were killed in Deir al-Zahrani.

The Israeli military said the attacks were a response to an action by Hezbollah. Israel's prime minister's office said Hezbollah struck first and injured three Israeli soldiers.

Israel said it was firing at Hezbollah infrastructure. Lebanon's prime minister denounced the strikes, saying civilians in their homes in southern villages were targeted.

The truce took effect on June 20. On June 26, Israel and the Lebanese government announced a "framework agreement" for Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon in exchange for Hezbollah's disarmament.

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, was not a party to the agreement and, according to reports, has refused direct talks and disarmament. According to reports, Israel has continued near-daily attacks in parts of southern Lebanon.
