Judge Blocks Justice Department Subpoenas
A federal judge blocked Justice Department subpoenas to the Federal Reserve. Judge James Boasberg ruled prosecutors had essentially zero evidence.
The judge called the case improper. He said it was designed to force Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to cut rates or resign.
The judge said the case appeared motivated by President Trump's desire for vengeance. The subpoenas were first issued in January.
Powell was reportedly being investigated for comments about headquarters renovations. The Justice Department plans to appeal the judge's decision.
Klear Note — The Federal Reserve controls US interest rates. Presidents often pressure the Fed for lower rates to boost the economy.
