Judge Rules on Evidence in Mangione Murder Trial

A New York judge ruled Monday on evidence in Luigi Mangione's murder trial. Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare boss Brian Thompson.

Judge Gregory Carro ruled a 3D-printed gun is allowed as evidence. Prosecutors say it matches the weapon used to kill Thompson.

Writings found with Mangione were also allowed as evidence. But the judge blocked several items found at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Police had arrested Mangione there days after Thompson's killing. That search was done without a warrant.

Blocked items include a magazine, phone, passport, wallet and computer chip. Some statements Mangione made to local officers were also blocked.

Statements made to two prison officers were allowed. The trial is set to begin on September 8, 2026.

Klear Note Brian Thompson was a UnitedHealthcare executive. His killing in December 2024 drew national attention. This trial is a major case in New York.
