Ken Griffin Pledges Record $3 Billion to Carnegie Mellon

Citadel founder and CEO Ken Griffin pledged $3 billion to Carnegie Mellon University. It is described as the largest single donation in US education history.

It is also the largest-ever gift from a person to a university. The money will fund a new campus in Miami, Florida.

It will also support investments at Carnegie Mellon's home campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. $2 billion will go toward the new Miami campus. The remaining $1 billion will support Pittsburgh investments.

Reports say the Miami campus will be in Wynwood. Students are expected there in 2028.

Reports also say $500 million will support the School of Computer Science. That school will be renamed for Griffin.

Griffin will also join the university's board. Carnegie Mellon already had ties to Florida before the gift.

This included an AI education program. It also included a partnership with Miami Dade College.
