Knicks Owner and New York Mayor Clash Over Watch Party
A fan watch party outside Madison Square Garden in New York was canceled. It was planned for Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
New York police banned fans from gathering outside the arena. The city did offer a permit for up to 999 ticketed fans.
But Knicks owner James Dolan chose to cancel the event fully. Dolan and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani then clashed over who was to blame.
Mamdani said Dolan made the decision to cancel. MSG accused the city of turning the area into a police state.
This was not the first canceled watch party during the Finals. Earlier parties were stopped during the Cleveland Cavaliers round.
The Game 3 party was also canceled due to Trump's visit. After Game 3 fans gathered at Bryant Park and 21 people were arrested. Fans were offered other options at Wollman Rink in Central Park and Brooklyn Bowl.
