Kushner and Iger Agree to Buy Lakers in Record Deal
Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger agreed to buy the Los Angeles Lakers. Kushner is a venture capital founder while Iger is Disney's former CEO.
They lead a group buying the basketball team. The deal was announced Wednesday.
Reports value the deal at about $12.5 billion. Some reports say it is over $12 billion.
This would be a record price for a US sports team. The agreement would transfer Mark Walter's stake in the Lakers.
Walter bought control of the Lakers in late 2025. He paid $10 billion for that deal.
That purchase ended the Buss family's ownership. The Buss family owned the Lakers for nearly 50 years.
The new deal comes less than a year later. It values the team about 25% higher than before.
Kushner and Iger were also linked to another deal. That deal was for a new NBA team in Las Vegas, Nevada.
