Kushner Meets Hamas Chief Before Netanyahu Talks on Gaza Plan
Jared Kushner is Trump's son-in-law and envoy. He met Hamas's political chief in Egypt on Sunday.
This was a rare meeting between the two sides. It was part of efforts to advance Trump's Gaza plan.
The plan is a 15-point US-backed road map for Gaza. Talks aimed to help move forward a stalled ceasefire.
The meeting focused on Hamas disarming and demilitarizing Gaza. Hamas said it still supports the road map.
This includes a permanent ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal. It also includes humanitarian aid and rebuilding Gaza.
Kushner is expected in Jerusalem on Monday. He will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu rejected the road map last week. His main objection is Israel won't leave Gaza until Hamas fully disarms. So disarmament remains the main obstacle to the ceasefire.
