Latvia's Prime Minister Resigns After Losing Coalition Support
Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Siliņa resigned on Thursday. The crisis started when drones heading to Russia crashed in Latvia.
Reports say Russian electronic warfare pushed the drones into Latvian airspace. Siliņa removed Defence Minister Andris Spruds over how he handled the situation.
Then the Progressives Party pulled its support for her government. The Progressives Party was a key partner in her ruling coalition.
Without that support her government fell. This happened just months before an October election.
President Edgars Rinkevics will meet all parties on Friday. He will begin choosing a new government leader.
Klear Note — Latvia is a small country on Russia's border in Eastern Europe. Coalition governments need multiple parties to hold a majority in parliament.
