Lawyer Says Cornell Lawsuit Accuser Faced Threats to Drop Case
A former Cornell University student says seven fraternity members raped her. She has filed a lawsuit over the alleged attacks.
Her lawyer Thomas Giuffra told CNN she received threats. The threats urged her to drop the case.
Giuffra said at least three women were also targeted. They were mistakenly identified as Jane Doe.
He said he got a threat Sunday morning. The lawsuit covers alleged assaults on October 19 and 20 in 2024.
It names Cornell University and seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity. New York's governor appointed the state attorney general as special prosecutor. The prosecutor will consider whether criminal charges are appropriate.
Klear Note — A lawsuit and criminal case are separate legal processes. The lawsuit does not itself decide whether criminal charges are filed.
