Los Angeles Won't Seek Death Penalty for Nick Reiner

Los Angeles prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner. The decision applies to the murder case involving his parents.

His parents were Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Prosecutors consulted the victims' families before announcing the decision.

Nick Reiner is charged with murder in their deaths. He is accused of stabbing his parents last year.

This happened at their home in Los Angeles. The New York Times reports Reiner has a history of mental illness.

Reiner had not entered a plea after two court hearings. Former defense attorney Alan Jackson says Reiner is not guilty.

Reiner is due back in court Tuesday. The case is still ongoing.

Klear Note — Prosecutors will not request execution if Nick Reiner is convicted. The murder charges remain active despite the death-penalty decision.
