Louisiana Republicans Remove Majority-Black Voting District

Louisiana Republicans approved a new voting map. The map removes one of the state's two majority-Black districts.

It also adds an extra district that leans Republican. The US Supreme Court had ruled the old map was an illegal racial gerrymander. That ruling led Republicans to draw the new map.

Klear Note Racial gerrymandering means drawing voting districts to unfairly reduce a group's voting power. The Supreme Court ruled Louisiana's old map did this to Black voters.
