Maine Democrats Tell Senate Nominee Platner to Quit
Graham Platner is the Maine Democratic candidate for the US Senate. He is trying to unseat Republican Senator Susan Collins.
On Monday a sexual assault allegation against him was made public. His former partner Jenny Racicot says he entered her home drunk and uninvited in 2021.
She says he forced her to have sex. Platner denied the allegation.
In a video he said he is taking time to reflect on his next step. Maine Democratic Party leaders called on him to quit the race.
He has not yet made a final decision. He has until July 13 to decide under Maine election law.
Klear Note — Senate races determine which party controls the US Senate. Maine voters elect one senator every six years. Sexual assault allegations often force candidates to withdraw from races.
