Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Belfast Knife Attack

Hadi Alodid, 30, has been charged with attempted murder after a knife attack in Belfast on Monday. He also faces charges of having a knife and threatening to kill a hospital worker.

Alodid declined legal help and said nothing in response to the charges. The victim, Stephen Ogilvie, lost his left eye.

He also suffered serious injuries to his face and back. A judge declined bail and the case was put off until July 8, 2026.

Alodid is from Sudan and came to Northern Ireland as an asylum seeker in February 2023. Belfast police say he first entered from the Republic of Ireland. The attack has since led to anti-immigrant violence across Northern Ireland.
