Medvedev Disqualified After Ball Hits Fan at China Open
Daniil Medvedev was disqualified from the China Open on Monday. The match was in Beijing, China.
He swatted a tennis ball into the stands. The ball hit a fan in the face.
It happened during his semi-final against Novak Djokovic. Djokovic led 7–5 and 5–3 when Medvedev was removed from the match.
Reports say the fan was led away. This sent Djokovic into the final.
Sixth-ranked Djokovic is 39 years old. He improved to a perfect 33–0 at the Beijing Open.
He will face fifth-ranked Alex de Minaur in Tuesday's final. De Minaur reached the final after Hubert Hurkacz quit while trailing 4–6 and 2–3.
Klear Note — A tennis disqualification ends a player's match and advances their opponent.
