Meta Cuts 8,000 Jobs to Fund AI Spending
Meta will cut 8,000 workers on May 20 2026. That is 10% of all its staff.
Meta will also cancel 6,000 job openings. This is Meta's largest job cut since 2023.
The cuts are meant to help pay for a big rise in AI spending. Meta plans to spend $135 billion on data centres this year.
That is about double what it spent in 2025. Reports say more cuts may follow later in 2026.
Klear Note — Meta is a large tech company that owns Facebook and Instagram. Tech companies are spending billions on AI development to compete with rivals.
