Michael Marra Elected New Scottish Labour Leader
Michael Marra has been elected as the new Scottish Labour leader. He is a member of the Scottish Parliament for North East Scotland.
Marra becomes the party's 11th leader. He won almost two-thirds of the vote against Joe Fagan.
Marra will lead Scottish Labour in the Scottish Parliament called Holyrood. He vowed to "reconnect" with Scotland after his election.
Marra replaces Anas Sarwar who resigned in July. Sarwar resigned after Scottish Labour's worst result in Scotland's devolution history.
That happened in the May 2026 Holyrood election. Sarwar then joined Andy Burnham's new government as a trade minister.
Before becoming leader Marra served as shadow education and finance secretary. He also helped write Scottish Labour's 2026 election manifesto.
