Mississippi Police Arrest Suspect in Fortune Killing
Mississippi police arrested Jacques Ratliff on Friday. He is charged with murder in Tasia Fortune's death.
Fortune was 29 years old. Ratliff is 51 years old.
Police found Fortune's body hanging from a tree on August 3. It was in the lot of an abandoned home in Jackson, Mississippi.
The state medical examiner ruled her death a homicide. That ruling came before Ratliff's arrest.
Police said Ratliff knew Fortune. They did not explain their relationship.
No motive has been shared. The investigation is still active.
Authorities said more arrests may follow. Fortune was a mother of four.
Her family said they did not believe she died by suicide. The case drew attention amid other recent hanging deaths in Mississippi.
Klear Note — A homicide ruling means officials believe another person caused the death.
