Mountaineer Nirmal Purja Dies in Pakistan Avalanche

Mountaineer Nirmal Purja died in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan. He was part of a 10-member climbing team.

The avalanche swept away the whole group. Rescue teams have found five bodies so far.

Purja's body was among four found first. Teams are still searching for one more team member.

Reports say all 10 members of the team have died. Not all bodies have been found yet.

Purja's company Elite Expeditions confirmed other team members also died. The company said it was heartbroken to confirm Purja's death.

Purja was 43 years old. He was British-Nepali.

He became famous in 2019. He climbed all 14 of the world's tallest mountains.

He did it in just over 6 months. Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah offered condolences. He called the deaths tragic and shocking.
