Myanmar Military Leader Elected President
Min Aung Hlaing was elected president by Myanmar's parliament. He is a military general who took power in a 2021 coup.
That coup removed the democratic government led by Aung San Suu Kyi. The International Criminal Court prosecutor wants him for crimes against humanity.
These crimes involve the Rohingya Muslim minority. Some governments and observers said the election was not legitimate.
Klear Note — Myanmar's military took over the government in 2021. The Rohingya are a Muslim group that faced violence in Myanmar.
