Nepal Sherpa Found Alive After Week on Everest

Dawa Sherpa aged 57 was found alive on Thursday. He had been missing on Mount Everest in Nepal for nearly a week.

He survived by eating chocolate and chewing ice. A cleaning crew found him crawling through a dangerous ice zone on the mountain.

He later spoke to the BBC from hospital. His family had already begun funeral rites before learning he was alive.

His wife said more could have been done to find him sooner. There was a confirmed delay in setting up a search team. Helicopters were sent but failed to find him.
