Netanyahu Tells Trump Israel Will Stay in Lebanon
The US and Iran reached a peace deal. The Washington Post and Financial Times both reported this.
The deal requires Israel to stop its campaign in Lebanon. But Netanyahu told Trump that Israel will not pull troops from Lebanon.
He said Israel does not feel bound by that part of the deal. Defense Minister Katz said Israeli forces would stay in Lebanon with no end date.
Israel's cabinet fully backed Netanyahu's decision to reject the withdrawal terms. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the deal.
Trump then confirmed it on his Truth Social platform. A signing ceremony is planned for June 19 in Switzerland.
Yet Netanyahu did not release an official statement about the deal. Israeli opposition figures criticized Netanyahu over his Iran strategy. Some Israelis argued the fight against Hezbollah in Lebanon should continue.
