NextEra Buys Dominion Energy in $67 Billion Deal
Energy company NextEra agreed to buy rival Dominion Energy for $67 billion. It is the biggest power deal ever recorded.
The two companies will merge into the largest regulated electric utility in the world. The combined company will serve customers from Florida to Virginia.
NextEra is the biggest renewable energy developer in the US. Dominion currently powers the world's largest data center market in Northern Virginia.
Demand for electricity is soaring because of rapid growth of AI data centers. The deal still needs approval from federal and state energy regulators.
NextEra shareholders will own 74.5% of the merged company. The total value including debt is about $419 billion.
