Nigeria Frees 360 from Boko Haram Mountain Hideout

Nigerian forces freed 360 people from a Boko Haram hideout. The hideout was in the Mandara mountains in northeastern Nigeria.

Boko Haram militants had taken the hostages from different communities. Many women and children were among those freed.

Some had been taken in March from an area near Cameroon. Two infants died during the rescue.

They had been weakened by the harsh terrain and long captivity. A local youth leader and a senator said the group may have been over 400 people.

This was slightly more than the army's official count of 360. Kidnappings have become a growing security concern across Nigeria.
