Norway's Crown Princess Gets Successful Lung Transplant

Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has had a successful lung transplant. The surgery took place at Oslo University Hospital in Oslo, Norway.

The royal household announced the news on Wednesday June 17. Doctors had placed her on a transplant waiting list on June 5.

Her health had gotten significantly worse before that. Without surgery doctors estimated she had about one year left to live.

She was first diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018. She will spend several weeks recovering in hospital.

Klear Note Pulmonary fibrosis scars lung tissue, making breathing harder over time. Lung transplants are major surgery with long recovery periods.
