Persepolis Author Marjane Satrapi Dies at 56

Marjane Satrapi has died at age 56. She wrote and drew the graphic novel 'Persepolis.' The French presidency announced her death on Thursday.

Her family said she died of sadness. This came just over a year after her husband died.

Her husband was Swedish actor and producer Mattias Ripa. He died on April 8, 2025.

Her family called him the love of her life. French President Emmanuel Macron called her a leading figure in French culture.

'Persepolis' was published in English in 2003. It followed an Iranian girl through the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. The book became a widely read account of life in Iran during that time.
