Peru Confirms June 7 Presidential Runoff
Peru's electoral board confirmed a June 7 presidential runoff. The two candidates are conservative Keiko Fujimori and leftist Roberto Sánchez.
The board confirmed this on Sunday after the official vote count on Friday May 15. Sánchez narrowly took second place over Rafael López Aliaga by just 21,210 votes.
López Aliaga alleged fraud and led protests outside the electoral board's offices. This runoff follows a broader crisis marked by delays and protests during the election. The winner will be sworn in on July 28.
Klear Note — Peru holds presidential runoffs when no candidate wins over 50% of votes. The winner takes office July 28.
