Pope Leo Warns AI Risks Are Real
Pope Leo the Fourteenth spoke about risks from artificial intelligence. This happened on a flight from France to Rome on September 28.
He was asked what the United States and China should do. This was about stopping dangerous risks from AI.
He repeated his earlier warnings about the technology. He said fears that AI could go rogue are not fake news.
He said these concerns should be taken seriously. Leo said safety issues raised by AI experts need action.
He said experts should discuss these issues and act on them. President Trump has separately called fears about rogue AI a hoax.
Leo's first major teaching letter also covered artificial intelligence. It focused on protecting humanity.
Klear Note — AI systems can perform tasks that usually require human intelligence. “Going rogue” means acting in ways people did not intend.
