Radev's Party Wins Bulgaria Vote
Rumen Radev's party won Bulgaria's election on Sunday. His party is called Progressive Bulgaria.
It won the biggest result for one party in Bulgaria since 1997. That is nearly 30 years.
Reports say the party won about 44 to 45% of the vote. This could give it 129 to 132 seats in the 240-seat parliament.
Radev supports Russia and opposes sending weapons to Ukraine. He has said Crimea belongs to Russia.
He also opposes Western sanctions on Russia. Radev left the presidency in January to run in this election.
Progressive Bulgaria only launched in March 2026. That was just one month before the vote.
Reports say voter turnout was about 47 to 51%. This is the highest turnout since April 2021.
It is also Bulgaria's eighth general election since 2021. Mass protests forced out the previous government and led to this vote.
Klear Note — Bulgaria has held eight elections since 2021 due to political instability. Radev left the presidency to run for parliament in this election.
