Romania's Parliament Rejects Prime Minister Candidate

Romania's parliament rejected Adrian Vestea as prime minister on Monday. He needed 233 votes but got only 189.

There were 23 votes against and many abstentions. Vestea had been removed from his own party for seeking the role.

The hard-right AUR party left before the vote. President Nicuşor Dan must now find a new candidate.

If a second candidate also fails Romania could hold a snap election. This extends months of political trouble in Romania. Romania is a European Union and NATO member that borders Ukraine.
