Russia Strikes Kyiv in Heaviest Attack in Two Weeks
Russia launched its heaviest attack on Kyiv in two weeks. The assault used 611 drones and 70 missiles.
At least 11 people were killed across Ukraine. Five rescuers died in a separate strike on Kharkiv.
The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery was damaged during the attacks. It is one of Ukraine's most important religious and cultural sites.
The monastery caught fire. The roof of the Dormition Cathedral burned.
Workers rushed to save ancient icons and religious relics. The monastery did not appear to have been hit directly by a missile.
Around 140,000 homes in northern Kyiv lost power. President Zelensky said Russia deliberately targeted the monastery.
But Russia said it only bombed military targets. UNESCO condemned the strikes on the monastery. The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra has been a UNESCO World Heritage site in danger since 2023.
