Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Broken as Trump Wants Extension

President Trump announced a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on Friday. It started Saturday and runs through May 11.

The deal included both sides swapping 1,000 prisoners each. The ceasefire lined up with Russia's Victory Day on May 9.

But within hours both sides accused each other of breaking it. Russia said Ukraine committed over 1,000 violations.

Ukrainian leaders said Russian drone and artillery strikes killed one person. Others were injured in the past 24 hours.

By Sunday Russian attacks wounded at least nine people in Ukraine. Still Trump said he hoped the truce would be extended.

He told reporters he wanted to see a big extension. Before the ceasefire was announced Secretary of State Marco Rubio said peace efforts had stalled. Sources say US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to visit Moscow soon.

Klear Note Russia and Ukraine have been at war since 2022. Victory Day on May 9 marks Russia's World War II victory. Ceasefires are temporary stops in fighting to allow talks or prisoner exchanges.
