Russia-Ukraine Energy Ceasefire Effort Collapses After Drone Attack

The White House pushed for an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. President Donald Trump had demanded it this past Sunday.

Neither side said it agreed to the proposal. Ukraine briefly paused refinery strikes to signal readiness for talks.

But PBS NewsHour reported that Russia had not stopped attacking. The Guardian said Kyiv appeared to resume strikes on Russian oil refineries.

The effort then collapsed amid a Russian drone attack. Russia sent a record swarm of drones overnight to attack central Ukraine.

The Guardian reported the attack killed three people and injured six. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 850 drones were launched.

The Associated Press reported this figure. Zelensky had vowed to keep striking refineries despite Trump's demands.

France 24 reported Zelensky sought European backing Thursday. Tensions between Kyiv and Washington had escalated. The disagreements involved sanctions, energy attacks and restrictions on satellite communications.

Klear Note — Oil refineries turn crude oil into fuels, so strikes can disrupt energy supplies.
