A Russian attack killed at least 17 people in Kyiv, Ukraine. The attack happened overnight into Wednesday.

It wounded 44 other people. Eight of the deaths happened at a railway station.

Ukraine stopped most of the drones fired at it. But it did not stop any Russian missile in the attack.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more US-made interceptors could have saved lives. Ukraine is running short of interceptors for its Patriot air-defense systems.

These systems are the only Ukrainian weapons that can stop ballistic missiles. Some reports link the shortage to wider scarcity caused by the war in Iran.

Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces hit supply centers in Kyiv and the surrounding region. The attack was part of large-scale Russian missile strikes that have become common this summer.

Russia said it shot down 475 Ukrainian drones overnight. Reports say Russia fired 24 ballistic missiles and 115 drones in the attack.

Both Russia and Ukraine have been increasing air attacks on infrastructure and supply centers. Ukraine also attacked more Wildberries warehouses, which it says supply goods to the Russian military.
