Salsa Legend Willie Colón Dies at 75
Willie Colón died at age 75. He was a pioneering trombonist, singer and composer.
Colón sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. He received 11 combined Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations.
He worked with Rubén Blades from Panama on the 1978 album Siembra. That album became one of the top-selling salsa albums ever.
His music mixed jazz, rock and salsa together. He blended rhythms from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Africa.
Klear Note — Salsa is a popular music style from Latin America. It blends rhythms and instruments from many cultures. Colón was one of salsa's most important pioneers.
