Scotland Declares Major Incident Over Cairngorms Wildfire
Police declared a major incident over a wildfire in Scotland. The fire is burning in Cairngorms National Park.
It has burned out of control for 11 days. Strong winds made the fire harder to control.
This led police to declare the major incident on July 24. The fire first started near Ryvoan Bothy on July 15.
It kept spreading despite nine days of firefighting. A whole village has been evacuated due to the danger.
Evacuations centered on Strathnethy which has about 600 residents. Some people in Nethy Bridge also left their homes.
The fire threatens to spread to that area too. A rest center opened at the Macdonald Aviemore Hotel.
Roads into Nethy Bridge have been closed. Superintendent Judy Hill said evidence showed the fire moving toward Nethy Bridge.
This is why that area was evacuated. Smoke from the fire has reached Aberdeen about 60 miles away.
