Scuffles and Fires Reported at France Protests Over Living Costs

Demonstrators across France joined students Saturday to protest rising living costs. Scuffles and fires broke out during rallies across the country.

Police also used tear gas and water cannons against violent groups. The Associated Press said prices for gasoline, energy and food had risen.

Students, unions and Yellow Vests all opposed austerity measures. Protesters also answered calls to revive the Yellow Vest movement.

The Yellow Vest movement began in 2018. France 24 reported that 190,000 people could demonstrate this Saturday.

High school students also had complaints about education conditions. They had blocked schools for more than three weeks. The rallies took place as France's fiscal crisis deepened.
