Serena Williams Gets Wimbledon Singles Wildcard
Serena Williams will play singles at Wimbledon this year. She got a wildcard spot on Sunday.
Williams has not played singles at Wimbledon since 2022. She has mostly been away from tennis for four years.
She took the last of eight women's singles wildcard spots. Williams had been unsure about entering singles as recently as this week.
After a doubles loss in Berlin she questioned if she was ready. But she accepted the wildcard and will now play both singles and doubles.
She will play doubles with her older sister Venus. Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
Klear Note — Wimbledon is tennis's oldest and most prestigious tournament. Wildcards let tournament organizers invite players who didn't qualify normally. Williams hasn't played singles there since 2022.
