Spain Migration Scheme Gets Over 1 Million Applications

More than 1 million people without legal status in Spain applied for the right to live and work there. The scheme launched in April and the deadline to apply is Tuesday.

Spain expected about 500,000 applications but got more than double that. Business leaders welcomed the scheme.

But parties on the right said it would bring more irregular migration. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Spain needs workers due to an ageing population.

Klear Note Spain has an aging population with fewer young workers. The country needs more people to fill jobs and support retirees.
