A wildfire in southern Spain has killed at least 11 people. Nineteen people remain missing after the fire.

The fire happened near the village of Bédar. Bédar is in the Los Gallardos area of Almería, Spain.

Four of the victims are believed to be British. Some victims were reportedly found trapped inside burned-out cars.

They may have been trying to escape the fire. Reports say a downed power line started the fire.

It reportedly ignited dry brush near a highway. A regional emergency leader called it an unprecedented tragedy.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez sent 150 military workers to help firefighters. The fire broke out during Spain's second heatwave this summer.

It is among the deadliest wildfires in Spain's history. This heatwave follows record hot temperatures across Western Europe in June.
