Starmer Appoints Sadiq Khan to UK House of Lords
London mayor Sadiq Khan has been appointed to the House of Lords. Keir Starmer made the appointment just days before stepping down as prime minister.
The House of Lords is part of the UK parliament. Khan is one of 26 new peers announced.
The list also includes broadcaster June Sarpong. Former union leader Christina McAnea was also named.
The move could allow Khan to join a future cabinet. That cabinet may be led by Andy Burnham.
Reports say Khan has not decided if he will run for mayor again. A government source told ITV News Khan has been a brilliant mayor.
The source praised his record on crime air quality and housing. They also mentioned the Elizabeth Line rail project.
Klear Note — The House of Lords is the upper chamber of UK parliament. Peers serve for life and can hold government positions. This appointment could position Khan for a future role in government.
