Starmer Plans to Quit UK Parliament for International Affairs Role
Keir Starmer will stand down as an MP. He is a former UK prime minister.
Starmer left that role in July. His own party pressured him to leave.
Andy Burnham replaced him as prime minister. Burnham also became the Labour Party leader.
This followed poor local election results for Labour. Starmer said he wants to focus on international affairs.
This includes defense, security, trade and technology work. No new job has been confirmed yet.
Starmer's exit will trigger a by-election. The by-election will happen in Holborn and St Pancras.
That is his constituency in north London. Starmer represented the area for 11 years.
Klear Note — A by-election fills a vacant parliamentary seat through a special vote.
