Strike on Iranian Cargo Ship Kills One Before Talks

A strike hit an Iranian cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media said the attack killed one person and wounded four.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key oil shipping route. Houthi rebels in Yemen are backed by Iran.

They said they launched a new attack on Saudi Arabia. Yemen's government has carried out counterattacks against the Houthis.

Saudi Arabia supports the Yemeni government. Iran will meet with Gulf Arab states tomorrow for talks.

The talks follow disruption at two key shipping routes. Those routes are the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Shipping companies have been rerouting vessels which affects trade. Last week the Houthi rebels captured an island.

The island sits on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea. This happened as threats to shipping in the region grew.

Yemen's government said it will send more forces after the Houthi advance. Iran's president also spoke separately with a UAE official.

Klear Note — The Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb are important shipping routes. When ships avoid them, longer routes can disrupt global trade.
