Super Typhoon Bavi Hits US Pacific Island Rota
Super Typhoon Bavi is hitting the island of Rota in US Pacific territories. The storm has winds of nearly 290 kilometres per hour.
Gusts reach up to 350 kilometres per hour. Heavy rain and high winds are already hitting Guam and the Northern Marianas.
US territories in the western Pacific are preparing for Monday's landfall. Rota is a small island of about 1,500 people between Guam and Saipan.
Leaders warn the island could be unlivable for weeks or longer. They also warn the typhoon could cut power for weeks or months.
The region is still recovering from Super Typhoon Sinlaku which struck in April 2026. That storm left many people on Saipan and Tinian without power for over two months.
